Teaching

Marissa's love of teaching comes from her own experiences with wonderful teachers from beginner lessons at age five all the way through her Master's degree. She believes one teacher can make all the difference in an environment of encouragement and hard work. Marissa trained in pedagogy at Indiana University under Dr. Brenda Brenner and the renowned IU String Academy. She has the most experience with beginner students, but loves to teach at every level of performance. She loves to share her passion for music and playing the violin through pedagogy. One-on-one lessons include a focus on technique, learning to read music, and conquering new pieces in a fun and encouraging environment!

Marissa also has experience teaching music theory at the university level. Do you have college or graduate entrance exams coming up? She can help you prepare. Do you want to learn to read music and rudimentary music theory? Marissa can help you accomplish your goals and learn the basics of reading, playing, and writing music.

Performance/Recordings/Media

From orchestra, chamber music and solo recitals to singer-songwriter concerts, weddings and events, Marissa's heart lies in performance. She has been privileged to perform around the world and has been a member of some of the top orchestral festivals. Marissa is a featured artist on multiple Indie Singer-Songwriter albums where she improvised and arranged her own parts. As a versatile artist, she has experience performing in many settings all the way from the Mozarteum in Salzburg to the Chicago White Sox stadium and many stages in between. Marissa enjoys a full-time orchestral based career with the New World Symphony in Miami Beach, FL.

Community Engagement

Deeply passionate about her community, Marissa created a project in 2020 to bring music to homeless shelters, hospitals and rehabilitation centers in Pittsburgh. She believes music can bring unity, healing and dignity to communities that lack resources and access to a standard concert hall setting.

One of Marissa's greatest joys is coaching boxing, sports and life skills at her church's inner city after school program for teens. She believes in creating safe spaces for kids and teens to experience community, fun, learning, and growth. Marissa also teaches violin to underserved students.

Marissa is always looking for ways to be involved in her local community and to partner with nonprofits and organizations that focus on building community. She is open to collaborations, musical and otherwise, to create those spaces.
